Mount Everest is a place most of us daydream of while trekking along local trails. Yet every year, thousands of people flock to the Himalayas in order to hike trails along the highest mountain in the world.
Last month tacticalgear.com customer Seidahl Hakimi made his way to South Everest Base Camp in The North Face hiking shoes and boots. What did he find most surprising? The fact that Mount Everest could not be seen from South Base Camp.
“I have always wanted to do this trip; but last October was when I became committed and booked my plane ticket,” he wrote in an email. “Once that was booked, there was no turning back.”
For the majority of the trip, Hakimi wore The North Face Hedgehog trail running shoes for its waterproofing and breathability. Yet for the remaining three days of the trek, he wore The North Face Gannett Peak to handle rockier terrain. He also liked the boot’s winter grip system, which came in handy during icy conditions.
Planning on making the same journey? Hakimi recommends an intense workout regime before you embark. “I focused on at least 10 hours a week of cardio—stairmaster, treadmill, running, hiking—and weightlifting exercises on the back, core and legs,” he suggested.
Additionally, be sure to research your travel companions. Hakimi said he talked to four different trekking companies before making a selection.
