For more than 85 years, Lowa has been perfecting the art of creating boots that will fit your foot so well you won’t even notice they’re there. The European company, which was founded in Jetzendorf, Germany, has spent the past eight decades honing its boot-constructing methods for every aspect of the boot — from creating an automatic-centering boot tongue to patenting a lightweight-but-sturdy material called Monowrap.
Some of Lowa’s most recent technological advancements include Flex Fit 3D, which allows more natural ankle flex without affecting stability, and Heel Truss, which protects the heel from damage and stabilizes the connection between boot shaft and sole package.
So, what sets Lowa apart? There are plenty of other companies who simply go through the motions of constructing and touting footwear. However, Lowa takes the extra step to thoroughly explain what they do and why they do it.
Not only is Lowa passionate about sculpting the right boot fit, they have some of the highest business practice standards in the industry.
With 95% of all Lowa footwear produced in central Europe, where environmental laws are some of the strictest in the world, the German company assures that its flagship factory located in a Bavarian village is so clean that cows drink from the stream behind it. Moreover, all leather for Lowa boots comes directly from German or Italian tanneries, who must maintain their own sewage facilities in order to reduce pollution.
Because of these first-rate standards and quality materials, Lowa boots are on the higher end of the price-range spectrum. While on the expensive side, you get what you pay for. Lowa says their boots on average last between 5 to 7 years. This not only means less money you’ll have to dole out for new boots, but there will be less boots floating around in landfills.
